Hi guys!
Well its been more than crazy in my life the last few weeks! I promised myself I wouldn’t neglect the blog because of work but I let myself down in that respect cos I really haven’t had time to think, let alone get writing on here. I’ve taken the weekend to relax a bit but even then, my head is just buzzing with work constantly. I was told 4th year was going to be hard but I had no idea!
Between all my subjects (law essays, politics presentations, investigative journalism pieces, the usual I have on my plate), I’ve been doing some group work for my thesis or FYP (Final Year Project) as they call it in University of Limerick. I’m going to be one of the first ever in UL to do a fashion-related FYP and its an awful lot of pressure on my part. I’ll be writing on ‘Pressure and its effects on the Irish Fashion Industry’ delving into the aspects of drugs, eating disorders and suicide and how it affects people related to the Irish fashion industry. I’ll be sure to keep you updated as I’m working cos its sure to be a really interesting subject as I research more and get interviewing people!
I also got some great news a couple of weeks ago: that I’ve got my first paying fashion journalism job! Anyone else who is trying to get into this job knows how hard you have to work, how much time you have to put into it and most of all how long you have to do unpaid work to get your name out there. This writing job is with Fashion.ie, the leading Irish fashion website and its a real honour to be able to work for them and get some great articles on there. I’ve only been writing for about a week and I’ve already put up six articles (talk about eager much!) so next time you have a spare minute, go and check out the site and see what I’m writing about, its a great website and the team are doing a great job on putting up-to-date, informative articles.
My other bit of news is that I’m also a writer for The FashionGuise as of about a week ago! The FashionGuise is a straight-talking, satirical fashion site that put great and most importantly, funny articles up for people who love and laugh about fashion. I’m lucky to work with Samantha Robinson, a fashion contributor for Yahoo UK and if you like getting a laugh while you learn about fashion, this is definitely the site for you! Its only a start-up website but if you want to write, give Samantha a buzz and see what she can do for you!
All this work is mixed up with my regular spot with Linger magazine in the US and being Life&Style Editor for my university newspaper An Focal so as you can imagine I am all tuckered out as soon as I sit down in the evenings! But as part of my thesis, I can bring up my grade by dedicating a bit of time twice or three times a week to just sitting down and writing on the blog and connecting with you guys! I wish I had time to do it more and of my own accord but as I’ve explained, I’m so crazy busy already that I just don’t think I have enough creativity to create original stories on the blog for a while. BUT, I will be making the effort to try, I’ll update you with all my goings on if anything exciting happens and will be putting up some of my features from Linger and The FashionGuise which should be up there soon! I’ll also be updating you on how my thesis is going and be giving you news and extracts from that cos I’m hoping to find something exciting, that no-one has covered in Ireland before, so fingers crossed!
Was anyone watching Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model last week for the final? Congratulations to Letitia but I was absolutely gutted that Lisa or Anita didn’t win! I’m usually so great at picking the winner but this year I was absolutely stunned when Letitia won after all the criticism that she had received in the last episodes and was astounded it was between her and Emma in the end! I also felt so sorry for Whitney, the new judge, she really tried to have her say in the competition but was constantly overshadowed by Elle MacPherson (I’m not a fan!) and the other judges and I truly admired her for almost convincing us she didn’t like Letitia!

Also if anyone is watching Styled To Rock, its getting exciting, I’m gutted they might not be renewing it as it really has given the designers a name and although I’m rooting for Heidi, who has won four challenges in the last three weeks dressing Cheryl Cole, Katy Perry, Nicola Roberts and Little Boots, I get the feeling Zainab will be more Rihanna’s style! Well we’ll soon see tomorrow night!
So back to the grindstone, I’m still in my boyfriends house, hoping to hide from the work for a couple of days but I get too guilty so i’ve done loads of work to keep myself busy. I WILL be writing again in a couple of days, I promise but until then,
Keep styling, Em x

7. And as usual some fun fashion photography. I’m by the sea this week so you may see some nautical photos thrown in here as well as some birthday themed ones along with the normal ones!
